Yuki Bhambri continued his sensational run at the Citi Open in Washington DC as he came back from a set down to defeat Argentina’s Guido Pella on Thursday. He now enters the quarterfinals of the Citi Open with this 6-7(5), 6-3,6-1 victory.
Bhambri had earlier defeated World no. 22 and defeating champion Gael Monfils in the second round. He will now face South Africa’s Kevin Anderson who progressed after upsetting top seed Austrian Dominic Thiem in the third round.
Pella who is ranked 100 in the world had the advantage with a first-set win but World number 222 Bhambri fought back to win the second and the third set comprehensively. This is the first time that Bhambri has entered the quarterfinals of an ATP 500 event.
