Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni thanked the Indian After being conferred upon the title of Padma Bhushan from President Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday in New Delhi. Dhoni, who holds an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel of Indian Army accepted the award in his official uniform of the Territorial Army. Dhoni marched past to the President when his name was called upon.
After receiving the honour, an elated Dhoni thanked the Indian Army for their sacrifices to the nation.
“An honour to get the Padma Bhushan and receiving it in Uniform increases the excitement ten folds.thanks to all the Men and Women in Uniform and their families for the Sacrifices they make so that all of us could enjoy our Constitutional Rights.Jai Hind,” Dhoni wrote in an Instagram post.
The 36-year-old received the coveted award with star cueist Pankaj Advani. As he was marching past to receive his award, wife Sakshi was seen proudly cheering for him.
The award became even more special for Dhoni as he received it on the same day (April 2) he lead Team India to a spectacular World Cup glory at Wankhede Stadium back in 2011. The win ended a hiatus of 28 years for the title.
After receiving the Padma Bhushan, Dhoni has become the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to reveive the honour.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni had said his goodbye to the Test cricket in 2014 before stepping down from limited-overs captaincy in January 2017, thus handing the captaincy across all formats to Virat Kohli.
