India's cricket world cup-winning hero Gautam Gambhir has issued a fierce challenge to 'the system' over the Unnao rape case in Uttar Pradesh where the rape accused BJP MLA is yet to be arrested and the Kathua rape-and-murder near Jammu where the horrific details revealed by the chargesheet have outraged the nation.
Gambhir, who had recently slammed former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi for his insult to India and backing of terrorists, has now issued an equally fierce tweet about what the Unnao and Kathua rapes have done to India's consciousness.
"Indian consciousness was raped in Unnao and then in Kathua. It’s now being murdered in corridors of our stinking systems. Come on ‘Mr System’, show us if you have the balls to punish the perpetrators, I challenge you. #KathuaMurderCase #UnnaoRapeCase"
The tweet follows a number of others by well-known celebrities on Thursday over the two issues.
Farhan Akhtar had tweeted regarding the gory revelations in the Kathua rape-and-murder chargesheet, writing:
"Imagine what goes through the mind of an 8 yr old as she is drugged, held captive, gang raped over days and then murdered.
If you don’t feel her terror, you are not human.
If you don’t demand Asifa get justice, you belong to nothing."
His father Javed Akhtar, meanwhile, had tweeted about the Unnao rape case, writing:
"In Unnao the brother of the alleged rapist is arrested for beating the father of the rape victim which caused his death . So far police has not taken any action in the rape case .The MLA is walking free and has the audacity to call the victim n her Family ” lowly people “ ."
