BJP President Amit Shah for the first time has responded to the Congress' impeachment plan. While speaking with Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on Nation Wants to Know, Amit Shah said that "impeachment move is wrong and people see it." The BJP President also said that "India will not let the judiciary to be compromised."
"This is Congress' basic nature. Since the time of Indira Gandhi, Congress believes in a committed judiciary. When emergency was implemented by Indira Gandhi, before that two judges were bypassed to appoint the Chief Justice of India. And those two senior judges had then resigned. The motive behind this was committed judiciary. today, Even after being the opposition, they want a committed judiciary. but that is not possible because our trust and faith in the judiciary and the constitution is extremely strong. We will not let this happen. secondly, the Kesavananda Bharti judgment was brought in only because of the Congress government. They wanted to alter the basic principles of the Constitution. The judiciary had stepped in then and a 9-judge bench was formed and had decided on some fundamentals. So, this is nothing new for Congress. They try to do this whenever they get an opportunity," said Amit Shah.
When asked about the timing of the move, which conveniently came a day after the Judge Loya death case verdict, Amit Shah stated that the timing was such because they wanted to send a certain message.
"If one needs to send a certain message, then they would have such timing," said the BJP President.
